The World According to Ralph...Ralph the Mouse that is!

We're reading The Mouse and the Motorcycle in class. It's a great book about a boy, Keith, who is staying in a hotel and meets a mouse, Ralph. Keith lets Ralph ride his motorcycle...his toy motorcycle. Of course, to Ralph, it's not a toy, but a wonderful machine.
We came up with 5" for Ralph's size...and 50" for Keith's.
Then we took some everyday objects...glue stick, scissors, pencil, etc., and measured them. Whatever the measurement was, we multiplied it by ten. This was then drawn, colored, and cut out.
Room 8...which was actually Room 10...but we were moving to Room 5, which used to be Room 9... anyway, the students loved doing this...and were in awe at what these items would have looked like to Ralph!

Can you tell we're having fun... a lot of fun... and learning at the same time?

Vis a Vis pen...what is used for writing on the overhead projector...

Once your object was complete, you could draw, color, and cut out a 5" mouse!

Working on a giant glue stick...
A giant crayola crayon!

A giant #2 pencil!
A blue crayola crayon...
Have you ever seen a pair of scissors this large?
Is there a pencil sharpener for a giant #2 pencil???
Look at this huge bottle of White Out!
This is Keith's comb...only the end of it broke off...
And last, but not least, this is a Tone Bell. This is what I use to let Room 8 know I need the room to be quiet, that I need their attention.

What a great activity this was...the World According to Ralph!

Ariel...

These pictures were taken last Friday when we went out for FFPE...(aka Free Friday P.E.) It was beautiful outside and I thought I'd take some photos of some of their preferred activities outside.
Four square has had a resurgence of popularity at our school. I don't know when I've seen so many students playing this... granted, the rules may be a bit different. Watching this game, I was hearing, "Seven-Up"... "Coke"... "Pepsi"... I still have no idea why they were saying that.
Basketball...always a well-loved game...
Wall-ball...we've had a LOT more students this year playing than in previous years. PLUS, we lost several wall-ball courts! The students used to play against the gym...but with the remodeling, the finish on the outside gym wall won't stand up to wall ball...Twirling on the bars is NOT seeing as many girls this year. Octavia, however, was twirling around and around and around...

The dome...which I've heard other names for...is always a fun spot to play...

"Come on, Owen. I'm waiting for you to swing across..."
Alex...I had his Uncle Tim in Room 8...a long time ago...long time ago..."Hi, Kiley! You look beautiful up there!"
Caleb was swinging around..."Oh, hi again, Kiley!"Here comes Jesse! He was running across the field, probably wondering what in the world his teacher was doing out in the field with a camera! Tether ball...do you remember playing that when you were younger? Jade and Madison were going to give it a try!

Friday afternoon...a beautiful day...and the whole weekend in front of us. What a great feeling!
