Room 5 after the Gift Exchange

For our Christmas party, we had some wonderful treats from many of our parents...spearheaded and organized by Tammy!  (Thank you SO much!)  Following our treats, we had a gift exchange, an exchange where we could "steal gifts" from each other...or open new ones from under the tree.

Your forgetful teacher kept her camera around her neck the entire time to take pictures...and never took a single one!  When I realized it at the end, we gathered together to take a group shot of Room 5 with the gifts they had from the gift exchange.

I hope everyone enjoyed it!

Cleaning out our desks

Before the Christmas break, we took awhile to clean out our desks.  Many of them were D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R-S!
Some, like Kai, got a bit distracted by looking at things they found buried under the rubble.
Some, like Jayden, just thought it all a lot of fun! (or not!)
Breanna and Aarin found old poetry they thought they had lost.
Jayce just threw everything on the floor and started from scratch.
Jayden needed a drink of water after all his hard work.
Jayden actually needed a little help from his friend, Owen.
It took a long time for Ryan...I don't even know if his desk would close before he started cleaning it.

Kenneth was leading the way to the recycling bin.  Be careful not to throw away anything important was what I kept reminding them.
Either Jayden is working slow...or my pictures are out of order.  Or....maybe Jayden's desk was a complete disaster?
Seems this was typical...
Now we're seeing some progress!
So that's how we ended 2013 and began 2014...with clean desks!  Now that it's later in January, I wonder how many still have clean desks?

Christmas for Cowboys

 Makenzie

Our Christmas program this year was A Cowboy Christmas...and our song was called "Christmas for Cowboys"...originally by John Denver.

Seeing as cowboys was part of the theme, many of us wore some western wear...and, of course, this needed to have some photos!  I'm not sure why everyone is not in these...probably they are ones who went home early after the last performance?

Gingerbread Houses

On the Tuesday before Christmas break, Room 5 made Gingerbread houses!
Thankfully, we had a lot of parent help...
We started by making a cube out of 6 graham crackers...
We used a lot of 'cement'...or royal icing...for our 'glue'...

After the cube was made, then a roof could go on...but no 2 story houses...they collapse too easily.

We had all kinds of candies to decorate with...

Ummm?  David?  What's going on here?

Some houses had a bit more candy than others...

But we definitely all had fun!

Parents and grandparents also had fun!

 A snow-gingerbread house!
 David, where's the house?

After they were completed, we wrapped them inside plastic bags...

I wonder how many of you actually ate your gingerbread houses?  They were sure fun to make!
