Valentine's Day in Room 5

Aren't these pretty?  They were just as good to eat as they were to look at!  Yum!!  Thank you Sara!
Room 5 lined up to get some treats.  We had 2 different sets of cupcakes....some frosted doughnuts...and a Mrs. Fields GIANT cookie... Sara loves taking pictures...just about as much as I do..is that possible?

Once Room 5ers had some treats, the bags were passed out.
David said this was THE BEST Valentine's EVER!  That's a pretty high compliment.  Speaking of compliments...we learned a little about Saint Valentine...and then everyone drew a name out of a hat.  The name you drew was the person you had to give a verbal 'Valentine' to... One by one, we went around the room and one by one, the students would stand up and tell something he liked, admired, etc. about the person whose name they had drawn.
"Peace!" said Elaine.
It was fun blowing up and playing with the beach balls from Isabella...
It was also fun to read our valentines...
Sawyer is almost to the 'had enough sugar' stage...
I'm not sure how 'in' to this Trenton was....
Aliya was enjoying reading her valentines....
as was Cayden....
Aliya was enjoying reading hers, too...
and also Micah!
Austin was especially fond of his Fun Dip....

Isn't this a gorgeous picture of Amara?

Sabrina...
Cameron...the Birthday Girl on Valentine's Day!  She turned 10 years old!  Yee Haw!
I love it when parents and siblings join us!  Rachel came...along with Kennedy!  They belong to Mikayla.
Ian, Sabrina, and Cayden...checking out the contents of their bags...
Kennedy just fit right in with the 4th and 5th graders...maybe she should just skip the rest of 2nd grade...and skip third all together...and just join Room 5's 4th graders...

Austin...enjoying his Fun Dip!
I
This is NOT the face I usually see on Mikayla!  I think she was contemplating eating another cupcake.  Should I or shouldn't I?
 Miss Kennedy!
Elaine... "Mrs. Johnston.  Would you take my picture?"
 Group shot!
 Silly group shot....
The birthday girl attempting to blow up her beach ball from Hawaii.
We ended the day with a recess...

Love this!

Making Valentine Bags

We love our buddies!  Every Thursday at 10:45, we walk over to Ms. W's first grade class and meet our buddies.  We help them with math and reading...and sometimes we do projects.  This day, we made Valentine bags together.
Ms. W supplied the sacks ....

The 'big buddies' (that's us!) showed our little buddies how to do an accordian fold with strips of paper to make a heart pop out!  It was a hit, for sure!

 Fun..that's what this was!
Like I said, we love our little buddies...

and they definitely love us!

STAR Student Breakfast

STAR Students

January 30, 2013 was our first STAR Student Breakfast celebration!

Mr. S, our principal, organized the event to honor students from our classrooms.  STAR student criteria was left up to the teacher's discretion.  It could be based on strictly academics, or on improvements in an area, for tenacity ...
Breakfast started at 7 a.m.  It was wonderful to see so many families come together to honor our children.

Mr. S said a few words about how proud we are of our children...and for the support of our wonderful parents...
Mrs. B, our librarian, then read the names of each STAR Student along with 2 adjectives their teacher had used to describe them.  I don't know all the names, so I'll just put the photographs of our students getting their award from Mr. S.

From Room 5, Jade and Micah were honored this time.  I told our class how every single student in our room is, in my opinion, a STAR Student.  I chose to focus on students new to our school...which both Micah and Jade are.

Congratulations to all our STARS!
