April 1 was a workday in Room 17!

On April 1st, we played Cube-o in A Block.
It's a great game that I've been playing in my classroom for 24 years!
Basically, each group rolls 4 dice...
each person writes down those 4 numbers.
When everyone has their groups numbers written down, I give the class a 'target number.'
Their group then works to try to come up with an equation that equals that target number.
If they reach the target number, their score is -10.  Otherwise, their score is how many they are away from the target number.
If the target number is 3, and the group can get to 5, their score is 2.  If they can get to 1, their score is also 2, because they're 2 away from the target number.
You must use each number, and you can only use each number one time.
As they were playing, I snapped a few pictures.
Calvin was so involved in the game, he didn't notice the camera!
 The same with Jayden...
Manny is new to our school...
I think he was wondering what in the world his teacher was doing!
Room 17 probably told him he'd better get used to it!
We adore Manny, and are so glad he came to Room 17!
Ella knew the camera was close, but she ignored it as she was focused on her math!
 Brooklyn was definitely concentrating...
 Jaden...always a happy girl!
 yeah, Tyler!
Tyler comes and volunteers in our classroom every Thursday and Friday during math!
Acelyn...I wonder if she was cold?
Ella...she was listening to her group!
 Brooklyn...
 Koa
Rhea...who let me know her glasses were NOT real!
But they sure do look adorable on you!

Someone, like maybe Tyson, was trying to hide from the camera...

I think Tyson finally gave up!

Last but not least, it was Twin Day at school...Mrs. Bryan and I decided we'd dress as twins, too!

February 25, 2016 A and B Block

In part of A Block, I taught them a 'game' called Neighbors Count.
Students use 3 dice.  After they roll them, they can add, subtract, multiple and/or divide them.  Whatever answer they get, they cover a square on their game board that matches that answer.
If anyone else has a covered square that borders your square, you get the number of points according to how many 'neighbors' you have.
It's definitely a fun ... and educational game!

During B Block, I took my camera outside to take some group shots.
 We have the Wall-Ball group...
Sean, Isa, Chloe, NT, Bryon, and Hazel...
 and the tether ball duo...
Hailey and Lala...
I can't remember what these guys were playing...
looks like a volleyball?
I know they weren't playing that!
Omar and Jack were playing on the equipment...
 as was Cyrus...
 and Sky...

Felix, Jace, and Mugsie are definitely a trio!
 Gene and Masion love frisbee...

Ok, this is more like it.
Cole, Tenoch, Ramiro and Zack playing football!
