Math Game

 Elyse

 Today in A Block...math...
Room 17 learned a math game...
a game of multiplication.
 Rose
 Kyndel
 Fabian
 Ish
 Acelyn
 Christy, Acelyn, and Gabriella
 Joshua
 Jaden
 Kyle
 Nathan
 Emma
 Rose
 Fabian,Nate, and Kyndel
 Acacia, Everett, and Elyse

As you may be able to tell from this picture, to play this game, you need 3 people.
In this group, Everett is the 'caller.'
Acacia and Elyse each draw a card, without looking at it, and put it up on their forehead.  You can't see your own card.  The caller just calls out the product (answer to a multiplication problem) of the two numbers.  The girls try to guess what their number is by looking at their opponents number.
I think this is Kyle, Nathan, and Rhea.
 Emma and Ella
 Ella and Rose
Stephanie and Mr. P
 Jaden
 Elyse, Acacia, and Everett

As an example, if Elyse has a 7 on her card and Acacia had a 9, Everett would simply say, "63."  Elyse would look at Acacia's card and think, "9 times what is 63?"  She'd say 7 and that's her card.
The person who first says their own card gets to keep the two cards.
When they've gone through the deck, everyone puts their cards back together, shuffle them, and start again.  It's not too competitive...and knowing your multiplication facts is key!
 Fabian
Jayden and Stephanie
Even Mr. P was practicing his multiplication facts!
(Actually, we only had 26 students at the time...and we needed 27 for groups of 3!)

Definitely this is a fun way to practice our multiplication facts!

Meet Bryon!

Meet Bryon!
Bryon started off by introducing himself,
telling us how he hoped we learned more about him through his bag.
(He actually said it better, but I can't remember the exact words.  It was a wonderful introduction!)
This was a figure from Skylander Giant.  It's name is 'Thumpback."
Bryon told us it's a water type and is the highest level character he has.
 Here's a close up Thumpback.
 This is a transformer.
Bryon told us he had this in his bag because he loves transformers!
This one is one a friend of his left at his house.  He hasn't come back for it for 1 1/2 years!
This transforms into a dinosaur.

Bryon had this 'stuffy' to show us
because he loves stuffies!  This one is named "Little Emerald"
because it represents his eyes and for the fact that Bryon loves Minecraft.
"Some of you may know this," Bryon started...
and then he pulled out this little basketball.
He loves playing basketball!
Bryon told us this was a case for...
a hand-cut diamond!  He got it at a small amusement park.
Room 17 was curious about this "hand-cut diamond."
They wanted to know how much it cost.
"$20" answered Bryon.
"Is it real?" asked another Room 17er.
""YES!" said Bryon.
Some Room 17ers thought it should cost more than $20 if it was real,
but Bryon explained that when people cut it,
the value goes down by about $130.
Room 17 requested that Bryon put it on the ELMO.
Next, Bryon showed us this picture of a monster truck.
He loves monster trucks!
He said he "went to one" last year
and this particular one go the most votes for
the most liked monster truck for that year!
 Bryon said it's named "Titan."
Last, Bryon shared some wildlife cards.  He says these were in his bag because he loves wildlife.
These are pictures of some of his favorite animals.  The wolf is his favorite animal.

Bryon, as I told you, you had a very 'polished' presentation of your bag.
We sure did enjoy learning more about you!

**Also, Bryon is the last Room 17er to share his bag. It's been wonderful to learn about everyone!

Meet Cole!

 Meet Cole!
Cole's bag kept a lot of Room 17 wondering...
we could see the antlers sticking out
but the skull part was IN his bag.
He explained that this was a deer head and antlers.
It's called a Mexican Mount.
Here's how it works:  You dig a hole in the ground and put the head in the hole and cover it with dirt.
Then you wait a couple of years.
All the fur, brains, all of it is eaten away by bacteria or worms or something in the ground.
When you take it out after two years, you put it in bleach
and it comes out like this...all white.
Cole pointed out how you can see the eye sockets...
 and where the brain was.
Some Room 17ers commented on how small the deer brain must be!
Cole told us that he and his dad go hunting together.
This is a SF Giants cap.
See the writing on the bill?
It's 2 autographs:  one from Buster Posey and one from Hunter Pence!
He put it up on the ELMO so we cold see the autographs better.
 Next was this rock.
Cole told us he thinks it's amber.
He collects rocks.

This next thing is used to hook fish.
Cole told us it's called a "KWIK Fish" and for Cole,
it's his lucky lure!
It's in his bag because he loves to fish.
He saw it hanging on a tree so he cut it off...and now it's his lucky lure!
Usually, he said, you wrap some tuna meat on it to get the fish to bite.
 This is a lego.
Cole likes to build military lego things.
He said all his little sets get broken up, but that's OK
because then he just customizes what he builds.
 Oh my gosh!
Cole put these cards on the ELMO and said they were all EX and Mega cards.
Many Room 17ers were going crazy with excitement.
Lots of hands went up for questions...
I told them to let Cole finish sharing before he answered questions.
He said this was one of his favorite packs of Pokemon cards.
This yellow card is his favorite..
(I can't remember why.)
Last but not least, Cole shared this football card.
It's John Elway, who he said was the best quarterback.
Elway played for the Denver Broncos who is his favorite team.

Wow, Cole, we enjoyed hearing all about you!
We agreed that Cole seems to love sports!
