Thanksgiving Feast!

Room 5 has talked about some of the many things we have to be thankful for...
and Friday, November 22nd, we celebrated Thanksgiving by having a feast in Room 5.
Mrs. J made the turkey...cooking it in the school cafeteria.  I am so thankful to Mr. S, our principal, who is an absolutely wonderful principal ... and I am thankful that he carved our turkey!
Mr. S told me last year that he makes a turkey about once a month!  That's a great idea!

He also carved Mrs. B's turkey...

Our feast was amazing!  Since we didn't have groups, I asked parents if they could bring dishes...and oh my, did they ever!
We had an incredible feast...because we have incredible parents...who have incredible kids...  It was wonderful having everyone come share lunch with us.  We had approximately 65 people in Room 5 eating together...
I tried to take pictures of everyone, but I know I didn't.  I kept getting side tracked with things that needed to be done...so my pictures suffered, but the excitement and gratitude of parents and children didn't suffer at all...

Don't forget Nico's birthday!  Elena made a video or presentation on Nico's iPad...and invited anyone who can and who adores Nico, to come celebrate with him on Saturday, November 30 at Ultimate Yogurt at 2:30!

We arranged the room and had tablecloths and candles...we had music playing, but you couldn't hear it...65 people talking softly still is a lot of noise!

I so loved seeing our students and families sitting together and enjoying this time...
Thank you to all who were able to bring food to share...and to all who were able to come.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 15th Friday groups

We started our first session of our 3rd round of Friday groups on November 15th!  Ms. G was helping Aarin and Breanna with some cookies!
Lucas, who is in the cooking group, was trying to open the jar of baking powder...
David really liked holding the mixr...

Now it looks like it's Kenneth's turn!

Makenzie was cutting out her squares...
Katherine?
Owen was ready to cut his squarea!
Elenah who helps Veronica place her pattern on the material...
Back at the cooking group...Ms. G and Tammy are starting their recipe for Thumbprint cookies...
Ryan and Owen....working on getting their squares cut...
Elias was tracing around his template....
The cooking group was making two different recipes for Thumbprint cookies...the recipes were very similar...but different..
Mr. C was explaining all the tools to the woodworking group.  Jim and Tim were waiting to get bus with the new group of woodworkers!

 These were our two recipes...
and a jar of blackberry and a jar of raspberry jam from Dorothy!
 The cookies begin...

Aya was helping Elias put his layers together to sew...
Owen got his layers in order and started sewing his X...
 Veronica was working incredibly fast!
Now, she's ready to sew around the edges...
Elias, I love all those reds!
The cooking group was rolling the cookies into balls..then making an indention in the center (a 'thumbprint' to put the jam in)...

Mr. C was helping Bevin measure for her first cut!
Jennifer wasn't able to come today because her sister was in labor with a baby boy cousin for Jayce and Evan...so Jayce's dad came instead!  (and Evan, of course!)

Jim finally has Jaya in his group!  Kathryn and Athena were getting assistance from him, too.

Tim was helping Kai and Jayden measure their boards...
Evan was busy with his motorcyle!
Jaya and Kathryn...have their heads together to figure this wood-thing out!
Cherish and Bevin were asking Mr. C some questions about their board...
Cody was working with Jayce's dad...
Ahhh, the thumbprint cookies were ready for the oven...
and Kenneth was ready to carry them up to the kitchen...
John was cutting out the backing for his coasters...

Elena was showing Veronica how to pin the layers together so they would stay together while she sewed them...
Becky finally has her daughter, Kate, in the sewing group!
Ryan...pinning his layers together for the first sewing...
Aya was showing Makenzie how to use a sewing machine...

Aya was also showing Ryan how to sew on a machine...

More cookies were ready for the oven!  Oh boy!!!  Aarin and Breanna shared the responsibility for carrying one of the cookie sheets to the kitchen..
 Lacie carried another sheet...
 There they go...............
Of course, we have to clean up!  Kenneth and David are impressed with the kitchen's sink.  Dusty is making sure they keep the water in the sink!
Ms. G opened the oven so Breanna could put the cookies in...although, if I remember right, Breanna ended up giving the cookie sheet to Ms. G to put in the oven...it WAS very hot!

I love pictures like this!  Tim was showing Kai how to hold the wood and work the saw at the same time....
while Mr. C was showing Jayden how to work the big drill...
 Athena, Jim, and Jaya...

Evan...what a little sweetheart!  He's SO good every time he comes.  He usually has a car, truck, train, airplane, helicopter.... he's all boy!
One of the things about the Friday groups, Room 5ers look forward to each one.

Everyone was here, so I thought it would be a great day to take a big group picture.  I asked Jayce to come stand out in the field so I could see if the light was good...

It was...so we got everyone together for a photo.  I'll post them separately.
The cookies came out of the oven...
The woodworking group started finishing up...

the cooking group was preparing to serve...

When recess was over, we each got 3 cookies~  I really couldn't tell much difference between the two recipes...they were both DELICIOUS!!!

Another successful Friday group!  It's hard to believe we're already in our last rotation!
