STAR Students

 

January 30, 2013 was our first STAR Student Breakfast celebration!

Mr. S, our principal, organized the event to honor students from our classrooms.  STAR student criteria was left up to the teacher's discretion.  It could be based on strictly academics, or on improvements in an area, for tenacity ...

 Breakfast started at 7 a.m.  It was wonderful to see so many families come together to honor our children.

 Mr. S said a few words about how proud we are of our children...and for the support of our wonderful parents...

 Mrs. B, our librarian, then read the names of each STAR Student along with 2 adjectives their teacher had used to describe them.  I don't know all the names, so I'll just put the photographs of our students getting their award from Mr. S.

 From Room 5, Jade and Micah were honored this time.  I told our class how every single student in our room is, in my opinion, a STAR Student.  I chose to focus on students new to our school...which both Micah and Jade are.

Harris Burdick

We've just finished a writing assignment in Room 5 on The Mysteries of Harris Burdick.  This is a book filled with photographs.  Each photograph has a title and a caption.  The basis of the book is that these were left behind at a publisher's office by Harris Burdick.  He was to return with the stories behind each one...but never came back. 

Students could select which photograph they wanted to write about.   The title of their story had to be the title of the picture and the quote had to be somewhere in their story. 

This week, we gathered in groups to share our stories.  Each student was to give the background of their story, then read the section around the quote.
