In 5th grade, a big project is the 'biography project.' Students pick a person and read about their life. I'm not sure all what they do, but dressing up as that person and giving a presentation in character, is part of it. All of the classes make a model of that person too. We enjoyed hearing all about Alexander the Great!

Spring has sprung in Room 8...or Hippity Hoppity Easter's on its way!
Easter...Spring...what a wonderful time of year! We started off with our Spring pictures. Some Room 8'ers really dressed up for the occasion...new clothes, new haircuts, new styles!

On Friday morning, we hid eggs for our little buddies out in the garden. Mrs. Friedman gave us the eggs. It was a beautiful day...

Nikkiah REALLY wanted to have an Easter party in Room 8. We had a few treats coming in from parents that we were going to eat during our movie. (We watched the movie version of Roald Dahl's book, The Witches, which we had just finished reading.) Well, Nikkiah organized a little candy hunt for our class. She came prepared with little zip-lock bags with each students name + "Happy Easter" + a drawing of an Easter egg! She also told me she "sent her mom shopping" for candy...eggs, kisses, and little bars. After lunch on Friday, Nikkiah rounded up her "helpers" and they hid candy all over the room. Then Nikkiah figured out how many pieces each student could have. She wrote the directions on the board and announced it to everyone before they came in. It was simple and fun...and the comments I heard from room 8'ers was how much fun it was! Thank you, Nikkiah!

Happy Birthday, Ashley P!
Ashley P turned 10 years old today! We looked for grey hair - didn't find any - and we looked for wrinkles. I actually didn't notice any at first, but then some of the acute observers in room 8 DID notice slight wrinkles directly under Ashley's eyes. We decided that she was definitely holding her age well!Happy Birthday, Ashley!
Oh, it's wonderful when the sun is shining and it feels so good to be outside!
