Janet is the owner of the farm...this gorgeous farm that we were privileged to visit.
We went with Mrs. B's class. Once there, we were divided into 4 groups...our class in 2 groups and Mrs. B's in two groups...
We had some who were not quite in 4th grade...yet! Ms. Ava! Her big sister, Phoebe, was happy to hold her for awhile...
In one of our centers, one of the workers would describe a plant...the students were to try and draw the plant being described. After everyone had a chance to figure it out and draw, she'd ask what the plant was... Kale, strawberries, chard, and....can't remember the 4th one.
Jullian just couldn't remember the name of .... well, she couldn't remember!
The sunflowers were beautiful! |
WAIT a minute! Fred, our dearly loved bus driver, decided to join Room 5 on our tour!
Another center was examining compost...
"Hey! Look at this snail!"
We were given little magnifying glasses to look and see what we could find in the compost...
After the compost, there was a little time to feed the chickens...
Another center was collecting some herbs...
No, these aren't herbs...but I thought I'd throw in some of the beautiful flowers growing there!
Once the herbs were collected...we washed our hands... and then we did some art with the herbs! Using a lettuce or spinach leaf, you could put hummus and a variety of the herbs... followed by eating! Yum!
Sonja, Phoebe and Ava's mom, was telling all her friends how beautiful the farm was. (just kidding)
Aren't the flowers pretty?
How about those apples?
Once we'd gone through all the stations, we all gathered back together for a debriefing...
and a little singing!
What a great time we had at the farm...
and how much we learned! |
Will just covered his ears when he heard it was time to leave...
But Fred led the way... |
and the rest of us followed! |
