We've been studying some of the Native American tribes of California. We learned about some who lived in the Coastal Region (ex. Yurok, Chumash), in the Mountain and Central Valley (ex. Maidu, Miwok), and in the Desert Region (Mojave).
After learning about these tribes, Room 5 was divided into 4 groups. Each group was given a tribe and had to do some research to find certain facts about their assigned tribe.
Once these facts were found - and written as notes, not complete sentences, - they then organized their facts and wrote paragraphs on their topics.
Once the paragraphs were written, they had two jobs. One, to draw and color a picture(s) to illustrate each of their topics...
and two, to either neatly write or type their paragraphs.
Each "tribe" made a poster.
Their poster needed to have the name of their tribe in large letters.
Once all those parts were complete, the groups worked together to organize how their poster would look.
This was not a short project...
but one that took a couple of weeks to complete...
I think most of Room 5 really enjoyed this project...
Once the posters were put together,
the groups practiced presenting their information.
We watched a video on 'Kid President'...
and talked about how he was entertaining as well as informative...
Next up...our videos!
