Fingerprints

Aliya and Sabrina

In Science, we have started a study on fingerprints.  We took our own prints and now are analyzing them.
 Trenton

How are they alike?  How are they different?
 Micah

If we were to sort them into 3 groups, what would the criteria be?  (Parents, if you know, please don't tell!  It will be more fun if they discover this themselves!)
 Ian or is it Austin???

Looking under a magnifying glass, the prints are so clear.
 Isabella and Cameron

After having time to look at them, Room 5 shared ways they thought the prints could be grouped...
 Aaron

Next week, we'll look at some more prints...
 Hannah

and Room 5 will put them into 3 groups..
 Karli

they may be experts by then...
 Mikayla

you may be asked to rub your finger on some graphite....
Zoe

and your Room 5er may take your fingerprints...
 Aliya and Sabrina

oops... excuse me girls... fingerprints...remember we're looking at fingerprints.. :)
 Isabella and Cameron

Isabella, you might be a little too close...
 David and Sawyer

Our purpose is to figure out if fingerprints are inherited...if the type of fingerprint you have is inherited...
 Cole

We'll use the scientific process to go through the experiment...
 Ms. C., Ashlynn, Caleb

Ms. C helped Caleb to catch up since he was absent when we took our prints...
 Elaine, Carol, Jade

Carole showed Elaine and Jade how to best hold the magnifying glass...
 Elaine

Elaine was amazed!

We're all unique....just like our fingerprints!

Jayden

Jayden told us he got his name because his mom just liked the name.  She likes to call friends by nicknames so with the name Jayden, she can call him 'J' or 'Jay.'   Jayden also means "thankful" and "God will judge."
Jayden LOVES video games, bringing one to show us.  He said he spends about 5 hours a week playing because, he said, "you know in winter it's too cold and too hot in summer."  His teacher (that's me) stopped him on that statement.

"Too hot in the summer?" I asked.

Room 5 got a laugh on that one.
He brought a plastic army guy because he told us it was just his favorite thing to do!

Jayden shared lots more with us.  He brought a bike glove because he LOVES to ride bikes a lot.  He then proceeded to show us the scrape on his arm and ones on his leg from sliding on crashing.

He had a friendship bracelet from his friend, Aiden.

I couldn't tell what one of the things he was holding was...but he won it at the local ice cream shop on the CandyMan Machine.  He told us he really likes gangsters and thinks they're really cool.  (Once again, his teacher interjected.  "Jayden, we need to talk about that!  Gangsters?"  Again, Room 5 thought it was a rather humorous exchange.

He had a magic deck of cards.  You can buy them at Target.  He loves them and told us he was "pretty muc a geek at it all!'

Jayden brought a pen because he likes to draw...and a lego guy who is a swimmer.  Jayden loves to swim and he also likes legos.

His plastic spider was to show us how he likes bugs.  He catches them, keeps a few days, and then lets them go.

When he showed us his nerf bullet, he told us that nerf was his '3rd favorite thing,.'

We were definitely entertained learning about Jayden!

Hannah Grace

Meet Hannah!
Hannah's parents once watched a movie called 'Providence'.  The movie had a character named Hannah that they liked.  Hannah's dad also used to have a cow named Hannah.
So that's how Hannah got her first name.
Her middle name, Grace, was given to her after her great grandmother!

Hannah loves cows!

Hannah told us she likes sushi.  She brought a sushi eraser to illustrate this.  Usually when she goes to eat sushi, she goes with Mikayla!
Hannah is a dancer!  She loves to dance and is actually on two competitive dance teams.  She brought one of her dance shoes to show us.
Hannah loves the Oregon Ducks.  I think she said she hoped she would be able to go there when she was in college.  She brought this Oregon Ducks necklace. In case you didn't know, the colors for the Oregon Ducks are green and yellow.

Hannah also brought a shiny, silvery scarf.  She told us she loves bling!

She's great at identifying songs quickly.  On her iPod, which she brought, she has over 100 songs.

Hannah Grace...we really enjoyed learning about her.  Even her close friend, Mikayla, said she learned something.

"I didn't know she was named after a cow!" said Mikayla.

Meet Ms. C

 Meet Ms. C!

Room 5 is fortunate this semester to have Ms. C as our student teacher! Today, she shared her bag.  We learned that she was named Alicia because her mom liked the actress, Aly McGraw.  Even though her name is Alicia, her mom calls her Aly.  Eva is her middle name....and it's just a name both of her parents liked.

Ms. C had the book The Outsiders in her bag.  She told us she first read it when she was in 5th grade...and now, she's read it 17 times!

She also had a camera in her bag, telling us she loves photography....

In this photo above, she's holding a crochet hook.  She loves to crochet and she makes these little figures...
She called it a Cyclops monster...and all Room 5 thought it was adorable!
Ms.C showed us her journal and said her mom gave it to her for her birthday.  She uses it for writing down her ideas.

Ms. C is very creative and loves to make crafts.  She showed us a shrinky-dink pin that she made.  She sells them on the internet...I think on Etsy.  In addition to Shrinky-dinks, she uses palomar clay and makes earrings and necklaces.  She brought some earrings to show.  Both of these crafts require cooking time in the oven, so her boyfriend bought her a little oven so she didn't have to turn on her big oven.

We enjoyed hearing about Ms. C...and are looking forward to seeing more of her crafts!
