Cube-o

 Monday, Room 5 played a game called 'Cube-o.' 

 They are in groups of 4...and everyone has a calculator and some scratch paper.

 Each group has 4 die... 2 are numbered 0-5 and 2 are numbered 5-10.  When I give the signal, one person rolls the die for each group.  Then everyone in the group writes the numbers on their scratch paper. 

 Once this is done, I give a 'Target Number'...for example, 17.  Then everyone is using the 4 numbers their group rolled...and only those 4 numbers...and they must use each number and only use it once to get as close to the Target Number as possible.  They can use any operations to reach their answer. 

 If a group gets the target number, their score is -10.  If, for example, the target number was 17, and a group was able to get to 19, their score would be 2, because they are 2 away from the target number.  If they reached 21, it would also be 2. 

It's such a great game...because all types of math can be used... addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, exponents, fractions, etc...

When we've played several 'rounds' and add up the scores, we have practice in adding positive and negative numbers! 

Cube-o... it's definitely a lot of fun and extremely educational!
