Mr. S...our new Principal!

 Mr. S, our new principal, came into Room 5 yesterday to share his bag!  Room 5 has been looking forward to this.  He first hooked up his computer to our ELMO and this is what we saw!  Mr. S likes to take lots of pictures.  Since they're digital, he keeps them on his computer and seldom makes prints.

 He keeps this big eraser 'for big mistakes' on his counter.  He works a lot, has a busy job, and is always learning new things.  He keeps this to remind him that it's OK to make mistakes.  It's part of learning.

 He really likes warm weather and sunshine.  Because he is inside so much, his eyes can be sensitive to light, so he wears his sunglasses a lot.

 This is a 'striker'.   Mr. S had it in his bag because his most favorite thing to do is to go camping and sit outside around the campfire.  He has a little tent trailer that he pulls behind his truck with kayaks on top of the truck!  He loves to be outside around the campfire so much, that at the beginning of the summer, he built at outside firepit at his house.

 Mr. S likes to build things, so he had a hammer to share.  He used to work in construction and build houses.  He did this at the end of high school and through college.  Even though he's a principal now, he still likes to build things.  His friend, Cory, is a licensed contractor and Mr. S likes to help him.

What is this?  It's a jump drive or a thumb drive and it gives more space on his computer.

Everyone in Room 5 knew this was a whistle and knew when you USUALLY use one.  But Mr. S told us this was his emergency whistle.  He hooks it on his vest when he's kayaking.  Fortunately, he's never had to use it.

He also had a medal to show us.  He entered a mountain bike race and won third place!  A little round metal piece was passed around for us to try and figure out what it was.  No one figured it out exactly, but it was a tool Mr. S uses to tighten or adjust the spokes on his bike.  He does all his repairs himself!

Mr. S showed us some photographs he has on his computer.  He started with his family who he loves to talk about.  The 'graduate' is Cole who graduated 2 years ago.  Rachel is his daughter and she graduated last year.  Chris is the guy in the blue/black shirt.  He graduated from college 2 years ago and now works for Intel.  I would imagine that Mr. S's wife, Katrina, was taking the picture!

 You can see part of the ELMO, but I had to include these pictures because Room 5 was impressed with them!  Mr. S loves to snowboard.  He said it's his "absolute favorite thing to do." 

 He also enjoys wakeboarding and 'surfing' behind a boat.

We loved having Mr. S come share his bag...and learning a lot about him!
