Bird nests

Kai

Friday, we did some observations of birds' nests!
 Cody and David

We talked about HOW to observe...by measuring, by describing the quality, the texture...
 Kate

by observing closely with our eyes...what materials are in the nest?
 Kathryn and Makenzie

In measuring, we measured the depth, the height of the sides, the diameter...
 Kathryn
 Lucas and John
We drew pictures of up to 6 of the nest, putting our observations in the area around the drawing.
 David and Cody
 Athena

Each nest was numbered so we could compare our results back in the classroom.  These nests were set up in the library.
Jayden and Ryan

Some of the nests...

After observing the nest, students came up to this board to look at cutouts of different birds and their sizes.  They hypothesized what kind of bird might have lived in the nest.

We were in observing for about an hour.  We're definitely learning through birds' nests and fingerprints that science is FUN!
